Musicalheatwave getting report from various media source that Clement Dodd Jnr, son of legendary music producer Clement “Coxson” Dodd, died February 5 in New York City at age 56.
His younger brother, Courtney Dodd, said he succumbed to cancer. Dodd was hospitalised in 2014 and briefly recovered late last year.
Dodd was born in Kingston but moved to England as a child. He grew up in Birmingham but moved to New York City in 1981.
He launched his Basement and Coxson Jnr labels in the 1990s.
In 2011, Basement released a four-song project by deejay X-Caliba, which announced the label’s comeback. Dodd’s illness curtailed his studio output in the last two years.
In a 2011 interview with The Gleaner, Dodd said he planned to release projects by roots stalwarts Junior Delgado, Prince Allah and Cornel Campbell.
Clement Dodd Jnr is survived by three children.
